6th Mediterranean Conference

THE ATHENS DECLARATION


 


Today, on February 25th 2006, the Freemasonic Orders of the Mediterranean Union, gathered in Brotherhood in the East of Athens, on the occasion of the 6th Conference of the Mediterranean Freemasonic Union,   

  Taking into consideration,  

  • That the main purpose of the Union is the commitment to Work for Peace, Democracy and the Freedom of Religion,
  •  

  • That the diversity of the nations of the Mediterranean constitutes the creative overabundance that promotes the Progress of Humanity, establishes Social Justice and improves the quality of Human Existence,
  •  

  • That the common efforts of the Bro.: and Sist.: are more effective when they are exerted in the framework of the Mediterranean Freemasonry,
  •  


Publicly declare  

  • Their common willingness to act according to the United Nations Chart and the International Human Rights Declaration, to act in unison and to take the initiative so that the philosophy that constitutes the basis of the Freemasonic triptych: Freedom - Equality – Fraternity, spreads to all the lands around the Mediterranean Sea.
  •  

  • Their wish to exert their influence so that the freedom of thought, speech and the freedom of religion are respected at the country that any Brother or Sister, that are present here, represents, and
  •  

  • Taking into consideration that to be a Freemason is to be obliged to support the Absolute Freedom of every human being, their intention, not only to respect themselves, but also to become respected by all others the diversification and plurality in the society, to promote tolerance among the various groups of people, to oppose by peaceful means all acts of intolerance, racism and xenophobia.
  •  

  • Their wish to work in unison for the improvement of Human Existence and to spread the ideal of the search for Truth and Knowledge so that all the people in the Mediterranean region will be united and prosper in happiness.
 
Furthermore, they appeal to all Freemasonic Orders to unite with them, in the freemasonic Uniting Bond, and in true brotherly love, so that, they too, may communicate these messages outside their Temples, always respecting the diversification and uniqueness of all beings and the Absolute Freedom of Consciousness.
